Shared book reading in German helps your child to learn the language.
Shared book reading in German promotes the language acquisition of children who can perceive German acoustically. Among other things, they expand their vocabulary and consolidate sentence structures.
You can read the text aloud in German and talk to your child about the content in the language in which you can best communicate.
In the ReaDi picture books you will also find all texts in German Sign Language, Arabic, English and Turkish. First look at the picture book in the language you understand best.
If you don’t know a word in German yet, search the internet for an explanation. You can also leave out a word or use another word that you already know.
You can also have the text in the ReaDi books read aloud together in German.
Your child will understand you better if the hearing aids are switched on. You can also use a hearing system and/or a microphone during shared book reading.
You can use the signs you know when speaking.
Also use your facial expressions and gestures.
Look at the picture book you want to use for shared book reading on your own first. Think about which words you don’t understand and might be unclear to your child. Look up the meaning of three words. Think about how you can explain these words to your child.
If you are reading aloud in a spoken language: Before shared book reading, check that your child’s hearing aids are switched on. If you have a hearing system, try it out during shared book reading.
