Digital books can also have disadvantages

Digital books have many additional functions such as moving pictures, sounds, music and games. These functions can be helpful and stimulating if you can switch them on and off yourself. However, sometimes they can also distract your child and prevent your child from developing own thoughts and start up conversations with you.

Examples for this are:

Too much stimulation from moving images, sounds and music can damage concentration and prevent relaxation.

Games that appear in the middle of the story can pull your child out of the story.

Advertising and possible app purchases are annoying.

Use the digital ReaDi picture books.

You’ll find lots of support here:

The ReaDi picture books want to get you into conversation with your child. That’s why there’s nothing in these books that could distract you.

You can look at each picture book in German, German Sign Language, Arabic, English and Turkish. You can choose or change the language yourself.

You can have the most important signs shown to you for each picture book.

You can display questions and impulses in German and German Sign Language to talk to your child about the picture book.

You and your child can also have the books read to you in German, as each picture book has a clickable read-aloud option.
